The following passage from Unshakeable by Tony Robbins provides a great definition of the word:
An unwavering and undisputed confidence; a steadfast commitment to the truth; presence, peace of mind, and a calm amidst the storm.

What would it feel like to know in your mind, in your heart and in the very depth of your soul that you’ll always be prosperous?

To know with absolute certainty that no matter what happens in the economy, stock market, or real estate, you’ll have financial security for the rest of your life?

To know that you’ll possess an abundance that will enable you to not only take care of your family’s needs but also to delight in the joy of helping others?

We all dream of achieving that tremendous inner peace, that comfort, that independence, that freedom. In short, we all dream of being unshakeable.

I really liked this opening to his book. It resonated with me on a number of levels.

Through my own obstacles and challenges, I was able to build on a strong will and constitution I had developed early on in my life.

I created a backbone of confidence and strength, rooted in a strong sense of self and personal values and principles on which I placed priority.

When we are able to have full confidence in ourselves, abilities, what we stand for and can still remain teachable amidst this confidence, self assuredness and awareness, we are truly approaching a beautiful state that is rooted in a stoic commitment to our beliefs and principles.

You may ask, “Why does all of this matter?”

It matters because now, more than ever, we are inundated on a daily basis with information, negativity, changing attitudes, trends and unforeseen events and catastrophes.

I want to ask you to take ten minutes at some point during the day today.
Only ten minutes.

Find a quiet place, take a pen and paper, think about the following questions and then write down your answers.

After you write your answers to these questions, I want to ask you to internalize what you wrote. Repeat what you wrote out loud, affirm it and put it out into the world. Then go about your normal morning routine and day.

What are your five most important values or principles that you live your life by and that you seek out in those you choose to have in your life?

What are your five biggest motivators, the things that contribute to your WHY and the reasons why you work so hard and have the goals you have?

Then I want to ask that you take another five to ten minutes at the end of your day, during your nightly routine, and do a simple review of your day—a mini-audit if you will.

Think about all that happened, all of the issues and challenges of the day, the triumphs and the successes.

  • Were your behaviors and actions true to your values?
  • When the world around you fell out of balance, did you fall with it—or did you stay true to your core?
  • Were you stoic and unshakeable in moments of distress and uncertainty, or were you calm and at peace with your course of action?
  • Were your actions and accomplishments driven by the motivators you wrote down, or were they driven by the needs of others, external events, or things you hadn’t planned?

I think you will find this to be a helpful exercise. I know I did.

It shouldn’t take more than fifteen minutes total in your day, and can often be quite illuminating toward helping you become unshakeable.

Let’s GO!
